The Sokoto State Branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), popularly known as the Caliphate Bar, has honoured two of its late distinguished members, Barrister Bello Mahmud Esq and Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir Esq by naming key facilities within its secretariat after them.

The association named its event centre after the late Barrister Bello Mahmud while the main hall now bears the name of the late Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the legal profession, public service and national development.

The gesture, according to the NBA, is aimed at preserving their legacies and inspiring future generations of legal practitioners to emulate their commitment, integrity and service to society.

Speaking on the development, Chairperson of the Sokoto NBA, Barrister Rashidat Mohammed, said the decision was taken to ensure that the remarkable contributions of the two legal luminaries remain permanently etched in the history of the association.

She explained that while the secretariat would continue to be known as the Hon. Justice Frank C. Udeh House, the event centre and main hall were dedicated to Mahmud and Abdulkadir respectively as a mark of honour and appreciation for their selfless service.

“No good deed goes unnoticed. Human recognition may not come immediately, but Almighty Allah rewards every act of sincerity and service both in this world and in the hereafter” she said.

The Hon. Justice Frank C. Udeh House has witnessed significant expansion and increased activities over the past two years under Rashidat’s leadership, further strengthening the presence and operations of the Caliphate Bar.

Until his death, Barrister Inuwa Abdulkadir was widely regarded as one of Northern Nigeria’s most influential legal and political figures. A graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1991.

He served in various capacities, including State Counsel, Secretary of the Sokoto Sultanate Council, Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice of Sokoto State, Minister of Youth Development, National Vice Chairman North West of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and Secretary General of the Arewa Consultative Forum ACF. Abdulkadir died on July 6,2020, following complications associated with COVID-19.

Similarly, Barrister Bello Mahmud built a distinguished career spanning public service, legal practice and administration. Called to the Bar in 1979 after graduating from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, he rose through the ranks in the Sokoto State Ministry of Justice to become Principal State Counsel.

He later served at the Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital, Sokoto, before becoming Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Sokoto State in 1996.
