BREAKING: Nigerian Army Reshuffles Top Command, Appoints New GOCs, Senior Officers

The Nigerian Army has announced a major reshuffle of its senior leadership, with new appointments across key operational, command, training and administrative positions as part of efforts to strengthen national security and improve operational effectiveness.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the Acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, said the redeployment was approved by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, to enhance the Army’s capacity to respond to evolving security challenges.

Among the new appointments, Major General WM Dangana was named General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division and Commander of Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE, while Major General EI Okoro was appointed GOC 6 Division and Land Component Commander of Joint Task Force South-South Operation DELTA SAFE.

Major General JR Lar was appointed Commander of Army Headquarters Garrison, while Brigadier General OM Oyekola will serve as Acting Military Secretary (Army). Brigadier General I Waziri retained his position as Chief of Staff in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff.

The reshuffle also saw Brigadier General IB Buhari appointed Commander of Headquarters 63 Brigade and Brigadier General K Rabiu named Commander of Headquarters 31 Artillery Brigade.

In line with the Army’s focus on technology-driven security operations, Major General SA Emmanuel was appointed Commander of the Nigerian Army Space Command, while Major General O Adegbe became Director of Intelligence and Security at Defence Headquarters.

Other appointments include Major General KE Chigbu as Deputy Commandant of the National Defence College, Major General SD Makolo as Commandant of the Nigerian Army Armour School, Major General SO Adejimi as Commandant of the Nigerian Army School of Supply and Transport, and Major General FS Etim as Chief of Training at the Headquarters Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC).

Brigadier General U Ahmad was also named Commandant of Depot Nigerian Army, Zaria.

In addition, Major General KO Ukandu was appointed Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Post Housing Development Limited, while Major General AI Allison will head Defence Properties Limited as Managing Director.

Lieutenant General Shaibu urged the newly appointed officers to justify the confidence placed in them through exemplary leadership, professionalism, innovation and commitment to the Nigerian Army’s constitutional responsibilities.

He reaffirmed the Army’s commitment to building a highly professional, combat-ready and people-oriented force capable of addressing Nigeria’s current and future security challenges.
