Mbappe Brace Fires Real Madrid to El Clasico Victory Over Barcelona

Kylian Mbappe scored twice as Real Madrid secured a 2-1 victory over Barcelona in an intense El Clasico encounter at Camp Nou on Sunday, reducing the gap to the La Liga leaders to three points.
The French forward opened the scoring before half-time before completing his brace late in the game, condemning Barcelona to their first domestic defeat of the season.
Raphinha briefly restored parity for the defending champions after the break, but Real Madrid found a decisive breakthrough to claim all three points.
The result ended Barcelona’s impressive run of nine consecutive victories at the start of the league campaign and extended their difficult spell following Tuesday’s Champions League defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.
Despite the victory, Real Madrid remain third in the standings, behind Atletico Madrid and Barcelona, who continue to lead the table.
The visitors entered the contest without suspended winger Vinicius Junior but maintained their momentum with a fifth consecutive victory across all competitions under Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho.
Barcelona, meanwhile, struggled to reproduce their usual attacking intensity, despite having won six of their previous seven Clasico meetings since Hansi Flick took charge.
The opening half was closely contested, with both sides finding clear-cut opportunities difficult to create. Barcelona defender Pau Cubarsi twice intervened to deny Mbappe, while Anthony Gordon came close to setting up Raphinha, whose effort narrowly missed the target.
Barcelona suffered an early setback when young defender Xavi Espart was forced off with an injury before the half-hour mark, making way for Alejandro Balde.
Real Madrid goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who replaced Thibaut Courtois after the Belgian withdrew from the squad due to illness, produced an important save to deny Gordon before the visitors took the lead.
Mbappe broke the deadlock by reacting quickly to Gerard Martin’s attempted clearance, turning the ball into the net to register his 10th league goal of the season.
Barcelona had an opportunity to respond before the interval, but teenage winger Lamine Yamal failed to hit the target from a promising position. Real Madrid also threatened to extend their advantage, with Yan Diomande firing into the side-netting.
After the restart, Barcelona increased their attacking pressure and eventually drew level shortly after the hour mark.
Pedri set up Raphinha, who drove a low shot through Jude Bellingham’s legs and beyond Lunin to make it 1-1.
The hosts continued to push for a second goal, but Lunin made a fine save to deny Martin, while Yamal sent another effort narrowly wide. Substitute Frenkie de Jong also saw his attempt blocked by Dean Huijsen.
However, Real Madrid delivered the decisive blow late in the encounter after Barcelona substitute Gabriel Jesus lost possession.
Eduardo Camavinga led the counterattack, beat Cubarsi and squared the ball for Mbappe, who calmly finished into an unguarded net after goalkeeper Joan Garcia had moved out of position.
The goal secured Madrid’s victory and handed Barcelona consecutive defeats across competitions, leaving the Catalan side under pressure to regain their early-season form.
