Grassroots Loyalty: Yabo/Shagari Constituents Donate to Secure Rep Umar Yabo’s Ticket

Kind gestures today build unshakable allegiance tomorrow. This saying finds true expression in the unfolding story of the people of Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in Sokoto State.
In a rare show of solidarity and appreciation, constituents ranging from farmers, artisans, teachers, traders, drivers, commercial motorcyclists, youth, and women have come together with a unified message, “From the people, by the people every naira counts”.
Their goal is to collectively raise the 10 million naira needed to purchase the African Democratic Congress, ADC nomination form for their representative in the National Assembly, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo, popularly known as Dan Majen Yabo.
Observers say this unprecedented move stems from widespread satisfaction with Hon. Yabo’s performance within a relatively short period in office. Many residents describe his tenure as transformative, noting that since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999 the constituency has never witnessed such impactful representation.
In an extraordinary move, the constituents reportedly urged the lawmaker not to spend his personal funds on the nomination form, instead insisting on contributing from their own pockets even if it means sacrificing their last savings.
To ensure transparency a dedicated trustee account has been opened for donations with contributions pouring in from across the constituency.
Reacting to the development, the lawmaker’s media aide, Malam Ammar Shagari, expressed deep appreciation, describing the initiative as a powerful affirmation that Hon. Yabo’s efforts have positively impacted the lives of ordinary people, particularly the less privileged.
Meanwhile, residents of Bulan Yaki community in Yabo Local Government Area reportedly voiced concern over not being fully included in the contribution process, emphasizing that they too have benefited significantly from the lawmaker’s interventions and wish to be part of the gesture.
One contributor told GaskiyaCast that he donated all the savings in his OPay account to support the cause; an act that underscores the depth of commitment and trust the constituents have in their representative.
