Shettima Reaffirms Nigeria’s Commitment to WTO, Multilateral Trade System
Vice President Kashim Shettima has reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and the multilateral trading system.
Shettima stated this after meeting with the Director-General of the WTO, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, India.
The Vice President said Nigeria remained committed to supporting the WTO in strengthening multilateralism and promoting international cooperation in global trade.
“During our interaction, I reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to the World Trade Organisation and the multilateral trading system,” Shettima said.
He stressed that Nigeria, like other countries, could not achieve sustainable prosperity in isolation from the global community.
“Indeed, no country can prosper in isolation from the global community,” the Vice President added.
According to him, Nigeria would continue to support efforts aimed at building a global trading system founded on cooperation rather than isolation.
“I restated our country’s position and assured her that Nigeria would continue to support the WTO in strengthening multilateralism and promoting a global system built on cooperation rather than isolation,” Shettima said.
