Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal has distributed brand-new official vehicles to higher institutions and public education agencies across the state to strengthen administration, supervision and service delivery.

The vehicles were presented to the beneficiaries on Friday at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

According to a statement by the Governor’s Spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the vehicles are institutional assets intended to support accreditation exercises, official engagements, supervision and other legitimate responsibilities of the benefiting institutions.

The beneficiaries include Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State University, Talata Mafara, Abdu Gusau Polytechnic, Talata Mafara, and the College of Nursing and Midwifery, Gusau.

Others are the Teachers Service Board, Senior Secondary School Board, Quality Assurance, Zamfara College of Arts and Science (ZACAS), and other public institutions of the state government.

Speaking at the presentation, Governor Lawal said the initiative would improve the productivity of public officials by providing reliable transportation for the effective and timely delivery of services.

He, however, warned that the vehicles must not be treated as personal property by any office holder.

“It is important to emphasise that these vehicles are not personal entitlements for any office holder. They remain the property of the Zamfara State Government and must be used responsibly and strictly for official purposes,” Lawal said.

The governor directed the benefiting institutions to ensure proper custody, deployment, maintenance and documentation of the vehicles, stressing that heads of institutions would be held accountable for misuse or unauthorised use.

“I expect institutions to be responsible for custody, deployment, maintenance, and documentation. Heads will be accountable for misuse, unauthorised use, or unnecessary deterioration of assets,” he said.

Lawal said the government’s investment in education must be matched with a culture of maintenance, transparency and accountability.

“As the government invests in education, we must foster a culture of maintenance and accountability. Public assets should provide value throughout their life,” the governor added.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to providing infrastructure, equipment and institutional support to improve higher education in Zamfara State.

“Our administration will continue to provide the infrastructure, equipment, and institutional support needed to improve higher education in Zamfara State. In return, we expect responsible leadership, prudent management, and measurable improvements in academic and administrative performance,” Lawal said.

The governor congratulated the benefiting institutions and urged them to ensure that the vehicles are deployed in the interest of the institutions, students and people of Zamfara State rather than for individual interests.
