ICRC, Nigerian Red Cross Donate Free Medical Supplies to PHCs in Sokoto

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), in collaboration with the Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS), Sokoto Branch, has donated essential medical supplies to three ICRC-supported Primary Health Care (PHC) facilities in Sokoto State. The beneficiary facilities are Kofar Kade PHC, Farfaru PHC, and Mabera PHC.

During the handover ceremony, officials of the ICRC and the NRCS formally presented the medical supplies to the management of the health centres and community representatives. The intervention is aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and improving access to essential medicines at the community level.

Speaking at the event, Representatives of the ICRC assured beneficiaries that the donation marks the beginning of sustained humanitarian support, with more interventions expected in the future. They also stressed the need for accountability and transparency, urging health facility managers and community leaders to verify that all items received correspond with the details contained in the waybill.

The Branch Secretary of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto Branch, Shehu Ibrahim Dange, called on health workers to ensure the proper and judicious use of the medicines. He emphasized that the drugs must reach the intended beneficiaries and be used strictly for healthcare purposes.

He further stressed that all medicines supplied through the intervention are to be distributed free of charge to everyone in the beneficiary communities. According to him, no patient should be asked to pay for any of the medicines, as the support is purely humanitarian and designed to ease the burden of healthcare costs on vulnerable populations.

The Nigerian Red Cross Society, Sokoto Branch, reaffirmed its commitment to supporting community health interventions while upholding humanitarian principles in all its activities.
