Sultan Urges FG to Modernise Nigeria Immigration Service

The Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on the Federal Government to provide the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) with modern, state-of-the-art equipment to strengthen national security and improve the agency’s operational efficiency.

The Sultan made the appeal while receiving participants of the 13th Staff Course of the Nigeria Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, who paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.

He commended the Nigeria Immigration Service for its commitment to safeguarding the country’s borders and tackling emerging security challenges, stressing that modern equipment and continuous capacity building are essential for effective service delivery and professionalism.

The monarch also condemned banditry and other forms of criminality, stating that Islam does not support violence or the killing of innocent people.

He further expressed concern over the misuse of social media to promote hatred and ethnic profiling, urging Nigerians to avoid associating crime with any ethnic or religious group.

According to him, criminals should simply be regarded as criminals, regardless of their background.

Earlier, the Commandant of the Nigeria Immigration Command and Staff College, Sokoto, Assistant Comptroller-General Ahmed Dauda Bagari, said the visit was to seek the Sultan’s blessings and benefit from his fatherly advice.

Bagari explained that the 13th Staff Course is designed to equip participants with leadership, strategic thinking and critical decision-making skills required to effectively address emerging challenges and enhance service delivery.

He disclosed that the course has 68 participants drawn from various formations of the Nigeria Immigration Service across the country.
