In the first case, Justice Dogon Daji sentenced five young men Ibrahim Hassan, Dansule Mohammed, Aminu Isah, Bello Mohammed, and Mubarak Mande, all from the Kwannawa area on the outskirts of Sokoto metropolis.
The judge said the convicts were charged with criminal conspiracy and theft under Sections 279 and 287 of the Sokoto State Penal Code, as well as illegal possession of firearms under Section 30 of the same law. The defendants, aged between 20 and 30, were arraigned before the court on January 23, 2024.
Justice Dogon Daji condemned the growing involvement of young people in violent crimes, describing the offences as serious and deserving of the prescribed punishment.
In a separate judgment, the court also sentenced Aminu Aliyu to death by hanging after convicting him of armed robbery under Section 287 of the Sokoto State Penal Code. Aliyu was arraigned before the court on July 15, 2025.
