Gov. Lawal Distributes 50 Buses to Zamfara NURTW, Commissions Five Fire Trucks
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has distributed 50 brand-new buses to members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) under the Zamfara State Loan Scheme, as part of efforts to improve public transportation and empower transport operators.

The buses were officially handed over on Wednesday at the Government House in Gusau. The governor also commissioned five modern fire trucks to strengthen emergency response and firefighting capacity across the state.

According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, each bus was procured at a cost of ₦27.39 million, with the state government providing a 20 percent subsidy amounting to ₦5.478 million per vehicle. Beneficiaries are expected to repay the balance of ₦21.912 million over a period of 44 months.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Lawal said the initiative is aimed at enhancing the public transportation system, creating economic opportunities, and improving the safety and efficiency of transport services across Zamfara State.

He noted that the NURTW would play a key role in identifying beneficiaries, supervising the vehicles, and ensuring timely repayment under the loan arrangement.
The governor also highlighted the importance of the newly commissioned fire trucks, saying they would significantly improve the capacity of the Zamfara State Fire Service to respond quickly to fire outbreaks and protect lives and property.
Governor Lawal urged fire service personnel to maintain the equipment properly, undergo regular training, and intensify public fire safety awareness campaigns.
He further warned that all government assets remain the property of the people of Zamfara State, directing all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) as well as beneficiaries to submit quarterly maintenance and utilisation reports. He stressed that vandalism, misuse or diversion of the assets would not be tolerated.
