Sokoto Can Afford N150,000 Minimum Wage With Improved Federal Allocation – Rep Dasuki

The member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Abdussamad Dasuki, has stated that Sokoto State now has the financial strength to pay civil servants a minimum wage of N150,000 if available resources are properly managed.

Dasuki made the assertion while hosting a delegation of retired civil servants from Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency led by Alhaji Sani Mode Dagon Daji during a courtesy visit. The delegation visited to appreciate the inclusion of an earth dam project for Dogon Daji Town in the federal budget.

According to the lawmaker, Sokoto State has experienced a significant rise in federal allocations in recent years, especially from the last quarter of 2023, creating an opportunity for the government to improve workers’ welfare and invest heavily in key sectors.

He explained that with prudent management of public funds, the state can conveniently sustain a N150,000 minimum wage while also addressing challenges in healthcare, education, agriculture, infrastructure and rural development.

Dasuki stressed that civil servants deserve improved welfare considering the current economic realities and the important role they play in governance and public service delivery.

The federal lawmaker also called for better pension packages and retirement benefits for retired workers, noting that those who spent their active years serving the state deserve dignity and adequate support after retirement.

Speaking on the broader condition of the state, Dasuki expressed concern over rising poverty, poor healthcare services, low school enrolment and the increasing number of out-of-school children across Sokoto State.

He further observed that insecurity remains a major setback to economic growth and community wellbeing, urging authorities to intensify efforts toward social and economic development.

Addressing the retired civil servants ahead of the 2027 elections, Dasuki encouraged them to remain actively involved in civic and democratic activities, emphasizing the need for competent and accountable leadership in the state.

“As respected elders and opinion leaders, your decisions and contributions are important in shaping the future of Sokoto State,” he said.

The lawmaker also unveiled new empowerment initiatives for youths in the constituency. He directed the delegation to submit 350 names for participation in an ICT and Digital Skills Acquisition Programme supported by National Information Technology Development Agency.

He additionally announced plans to distribute laptops to 70 students from the constituency currently studying in tertiary institutions to support digital education and learning.
Dasuki reaffirmed his commitment to attracting developmental projects that would directly benefit the people, describing the inclusion of the Dogon Daji earth dam project in the federal budget as part of efforts to improve agriculture, water supply and rural economic activities.

Members of the delegation commended the lawmaker for what they described as quality representation and impactful projects, particularly the successful inclusion of the earth dam project for the benefit of Dogon Daji and neighbouring communities.
