Sultan of Sokoto Declares April 19 as Start of Zulki’ida 1447AH
The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III has declared Sunday, April 19, 2026 as the first day of Zulki’ida 1447AH.
The announcement was made in a statement signed by the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at the Sultanate Council, who is also the Waziri of Sokoto, Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu.
According to the statement, the decision followed the non sighting of the crescent moon on Friday, April 17, 2026, which corresponded to the 29th day of Shawwal 1447AH.
It further explained that Saturday, April 18, 2026, would be observed as the 30th day of Shawwal.
Consequently, the Sultan approved Sunday, April 19, 2026, as the 1st of Zulki’ida 1447AH.
