Algeria Reaffirms Support for Mali’s Unity, Rejects Terrorism

The Algerian government has reaffirmed its strong support for the unity, sovereignty, and institutions of the Republic of Mali, while strongly condemning all forms of terrorism.

Algeria’s Senior Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, National Community Abroad and African Affairs, Ahmed Attaf, made the statement on Monday during a press briefing in Algiers.

According to Algeria Press Service, the remarks came after Attaf received the Foreign Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Elmedin Konakovic, who is on an official visit to Algeria.

Attaf said Algeria’s position on Mali remains clear and firm, stressing support for the unity of the Malian territory, its people, and state institutions.

He also reiterated Algeria’s total rejection of terrorism, saying it cannot be justified or tolerated under any circumstance, regardless of motives or causes.

He stressed that Algeria’s stance is shaped by its own painful experience with terrorism in the past.

The minister further called for stronger national unity in Mali, describing it as the best defence against terrorism and a reliable shield in the fight against insecurity.
