Hundreds Dump APC for ADC in Sokoto, Blame Hardship and Insecurity

Hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Samo Village in Tambuwal Local Government Area of Sokoto State have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing worsening economic hardship, rising insecurity and growing dissatisfaction with the ruling party.
The defectors, who are mainly from the Faga/Alasan ward, formally joined the ADC during a reception held at the party’s state secretariat in Sokoto on Wednesday.
Speaking on behalf of the group, the former APC members said the increasing cost of living, widespread poverty and persistent security challenges influenced their decision to leave the ruling party. They argued that many Nigerians are struggling to meet their basic needs despite promises of economic recovery and improved security.
The group also expressed concern over the impact of insecurity on farming activities, saying many farmers have either abandoned their farmlands or reduced cultivation due to fear of attacks and kidnappings.
They said they were convinced that the ADC offers a better platform capable of addressing the country’s economic and security challenges through people-focused policies and inclusive governance.
Receiving the defectors, the ADC Chairman in Tambuwal Local Government Area, Alhaji Bello Dan Marafa, described the development as evidence of growing public dissatisfaction with the APC. He assured the new members of equal opportunities within the party and reaffirmed the ADC’s commitment to justice, accountability and people-centred leadership.
Also speaking, the Sokoto State ADC Chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Mai Gwandu, welcomed the new members, describing their defection as a significant boost to the party’s grassroots expansion. He urged them to actively participate in party activities as preparations continue for future elections.
