Governor Yusuf Nominates Murtala Garo as Kano Deputy Governor

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State, has forwarded the nomination of Murtala Sule Garo to the Kano State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation as Deputy Governor of Kano State.

The nomination was announced in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Spokesman, Bature Dawakin Tofa. According to the statement, the nomination followed the voluntary resignation of former Deputy Governor Abdussalam Gwarzo on March 27, 2026, which created a vacancy in the office.

Governor Yusuf said the nomination was made after consultations with stakeholders and urged lawmakers to grant speedy approval.

Garo, 48, is a longtime political figure in Kano with experience in both elective and appointed offices. He previously served as Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) Kano Chapter, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Special Adviser to the Governor, and Chairman of Kabo Local Government Area.

He was also the deputy governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election. The Kano State Government said the nomination is aimed at strengthening governance and improving service delivery across the state.
