Tinubu Signs 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Capital Spending Deadline.
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has signed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law, approving a total expenditure of ₦68.32 trillion for the fiscal year.
The President also approved an extension of the implementation period for the capital component of the 2025 budget from March 31, 2026, to June 30, 2026, to allow completion of ongoing projects across the country.
According to a press statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, the 2026 budget allocates ₦4.799 trillion for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent expenditure, and ₦32.2 trillion for capital expenditure through the Development Fund.
The Presidency said the budget reflects the administration’s priorities of economic stability, national security, infrastructure development, and inclusive growth.
President Tinubu directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure transparent and efficient use of public funds, while emphasizing value for money and timely project delivery.
He also commended the National Assembly for the swift consideration and passage of the budget, reaffirming the need for continued cooperation between the executive and legislative arms of government.
The 2026 Appropriation Act officially takes effect from April 1, 2026, with full implementation expected to commence immediately under the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
