Sokoto NUJ Chapel Mourns the Passing of Its Financial Secretary

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Sokoto State has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Financial Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed Goronyo.

Goronyo reportedly died on Wednesday night after a brief illness, leaving colleagues and the wider media community in shock.

Until his death, he was a correspondent for Al Jazeera and Standard Times, and was widely regarded as a hardworking and passionate journalist.

In a statement jointly issued by the Chapel Chairman, Ankeli Emmanuel, and Secretary, Musa Ubandawaki, the union described his passing as a painful and irreparable loss to journalism in the state.

They noted that Goronyo was more than just a colleague, highlighting his lively personality, sense of humour, and ability to generate impactful news stories.

“He was a dedicated professional who contributed immensely to the growth of the chapel and the journalism profession. His honesty and courage in upholding the truth stood him out” the statement said.

The union also recalled his active participation in chapel affairs and his unwavering commitment to his responsibilities.

The chapel expressed its heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and professional associates, praying that Almighty Allah grants him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.

The late journalist has been buried today, Thursday in Arkilla area of Wamakko Local Government, Sokoto State, in line with Islamic traditions.
