Nigerian businessman and Chairman of Oranto Petroleum Ltd. Arthur Eze has announced a scholarship scheme for 50 undergraduate students of Northwest University Sokoto, with the programme set to commence in the 2026/2027 academic session.

The scholarship offer was disclosed in a letter dated May 8, 2026 and made public in a statement by the university’s Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, Abdallah El-kurebe.

According to the statement, the initiative is intended to assist brilliant but financially disadvantaged students pursuing full-time degree programmes across the university’s various faculties.

Depending on the arrangement agreed by the university and the sponsor, the scholarship will cover tuition fees alone or both tuition and accommodation.

Eze said recipients would be chosen on the basis of academic excellence, financial need and good moral conduct. He added that successful students would continue to benefit from the award until graduation, provided they maintain good academic performance and uphold the institution’s disciplinary standards.

He directed the university’s scholarship committee to identify qualified candidates, while his office would collaborate with the institution to conclude the selection process and facilitate the disbursement of the awards.

The philanthropist described the programme as part of his broader commitment to investing in education and empowering young Nigerians to become future leaders and professionals.

Eze also commended the founder of the university, former governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, for his contributions to educational development in Nigeria.

He said Wamakko’s commitment to expanding access to education had created opportunities for countless young Nigerians, adding that the scholarship was a way of building on that legacy.

Responding to the development, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Mukhtar Umar Bunza, described the scholarship as a significant intervention that would provide relief to deserving students facing financial challenges.

Bunza thanked Eze for the generous support and assured him that the university would implement the programme with transparency, ensuring that only students who meet the stipulated criteria benefit from the award.
