Appeal Court Orders Abduljabbar to Produce Evidence Books in Blasphemy
The Kano State High Court, sitting as the Court of Appeal, has directed the legal team of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasir Kabara to present the books he relied upon as evidence during his original blasphemy trial.
Sheikh Abduljabbar is challenging the death sentence imposed on him by the Upper Sharia Court in Kofar Kudu after he was convicted of blasphemy against Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).
At the appeal hearing, counsel for Abduljabbar urged the court to overturn the lower court’s judgment and acquit him of the charges. However, lawyers representing the Kano State Government asked the appellate court to uphold both the conviction and the sentence.
Presiding over the proceedings, Justice Nasir Saminu ruled that the books cited by the appellant during the trial must be produced to assist the court in reviewing the appeal.
The court added that a date for the delivery of judgment would be communicated to the parties at a later time.
