Armed bandits have killed a mosque imam and abducted several married women during an attack on Kuda-Kuda village in Goronyo Local Government Area of Sokoto State, northwestern Nigeria.
The attackers reportedly stormed the community in the early hours of Thursday, shooting dead Imam Audu and rustling a large number of livestock after spending several hours carrying out the assault.
According to local sources, the bandits moved from house to house, abducting residents, most of them married women, before fleeing to an unknown destination.
Residents of the village expressed frustration over what they described as the absence of timely intervention by security agencies during the attack.
They noted that Kuda-Kuda community has suffered repeated bandit attacks over the years.
One resident said Thursdays attack was the 11th assault on the village, lamenting that the community remains vulnerable despite repeated appeals for increased security presence and protection.
Efforts to obtain comments from the Sokoto State Police Command and the state government were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
