UNICEF Hands Over Galaxy Tablets as Sokoto Flags Off 2025/2026 Annual School Census

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), with funding support from the European Union (EU), has donated 79 Galaxy Tablets to the Sokoto State Government to strengthen data collection and educational planning under the 2025/2026 Annual School Census (ASC).

The tablets were officially presented during the Annual School Census Planning Meeting held at Sokoto Guest Inn Hotel, where the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, represented by the Executive Chairman of the Teachers Service Board, Professor Mustafa Tukur Namakka, flagged off the exercise.

Professor Ala commended UNICEF and the European Union for their sustained partnership and investment in improving education management in Sokoto State, describing the donation as a significant boost to the state’s capacity for accurate data collection and evidence-based decision-making.

He assured the development partners that the devices would be used solely for the Annual School Census and other education management activities aimed at enhancing planning, resource allocation, and policy implementation.

Speaking on behalf of UNICEF, Beatrice Sababa reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to supporting the Sokoto State Government in strengthening educational planning and data management systems, stressing that reliable data remains essential for improving learning outcomes and expanding access to quality education.

Earlier, the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Chika Murtala Abubakar, highlighted the importance of the planning meeting, noting that accurate educational data is critical for effective policy formulation and sustainable development in the education sector.

Goodwill messages were delivered by representatives of the Ministry of Science and Technology, Plan International, and the AGILE Project, who pledged continued collaboration with the Ministry to advance education development across the state.

The Head of the Education Management Information System (EMIS), Hafiz Ibrahim D/Daji, presented updates on the progress of the Annual School Census in Sokoto State and outlined the implementation strategy for the 2025/2026 exercise, including the Digital National Education Management Information System (DNEMIS).

Closing the event, the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Shehu Aliyu, thanked UNICEF, the European Union, and other development partners for their unwavering support and called on stakeholders to ensure the successful collection of comprehensive and reliable educational data.
