BREAKING: INEC Declares Oyebanji Winner of Ekiti Governorship Election
The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Biodun Oyebanji of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Ekiti State governorship election held on Saturday.
Oyebanji secured a second term in office after polling 319,224 votes, defeating his closest challengers, Olumayokun Oluyede of the Peoples Democratic Party and Dare Bejide of the African Democratic Congress.
The election results were announced in the early hours of Sunday by the Returning Officer, Professor, Adenike Oladiji, at the INEC headquarters on Iyin Road in Ado-Ekiti.
Announcing the outcome, Oladiji stated that Oyebanji had fulfilled all constitutional requirements and was therefore returned elected as governor.
According to the final results, the APC polled 319,224 votes, while the PDP received 40,533 votes and the ADC secured 12,872 votes.
INEC also disclosed that the state has 988,251 registered voters, with 384,940 accredited for the election. A total of 382,109 votes were cast, out of which 375,777 were declared valid.
In a notable outcome, the PDP candidate lost his home local government area, Efon. Oyebanji and the APC recorded 8,742 votes in the council, while the PDP finished second with 2,051 votes.
