Ekiti Guber: ADC Gubernatorial Candidate Alleges APC Intimidation, Vote-Buying

The governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the Ekiti State governorship election, Dare Bejide, has accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of deploying thugs and engaging in vote-buying to influence the outcome of the poll.

Speaking in Ilawe-Ekiti, Ekiti South West Local Government Area, Bejide alleged that APC supporters intimidated voters and attempted to induce them with cash during the election.

The ADC candidate further claimed that one of his aides sustained injuries during a clash involving supporters of both parties at Polling Unit 4, Ward 2, and is currently receiving treatment in a hospital.

According to Bejide, the violence erupted after ADC supporters intercepted individuals allegedly distributing money to voters from a sack.

“My driver was attacked and injured and is presently undergoing treatment in the hospital. This is unfortunate and unacceptable in a democratic setting,” he said.

He also alleged that a woman involved in the cash distribution contacted a local council chairman after being confronted by ADC supporters.

Bejide described the incident as an attempt to undermine the credibility of the election and called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to investigate the allegations and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

Despite his concerns, the ADC candidate commended INEC officials for their conduct and professionalism during the exercise. He also urged his supporters to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to democratic principles throughout the election period.
