Fahad Faruk Galadanchi
The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has commenced an operational assessment tour of divisional police headquarters across communities facing security threats from banditry and activities of the Lakurawa group.
The tour, which aligns with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, focused on strengthening community policing and enhancing security architecture in vulnerable areas.
Communities visited during the exercise include Gidan Madi, Gudu, Binji and Wamakko divisions, all of which have witnessed security concerns in recent months.
During the inspection, the Compol evaluated the operational capacity of the divisions, inspected facilities and assessed the welfare and readiness of personnel deployed to the affected areas.
Speaking to officers and men at the various stations, the police commissioner emphasised the need for intelligence led operations, professionalism and closer collaboration with residents to combat criminal activities effectively.
He warned personnel against negligence, urging them to maintain constant alertness and strictly observe security measures within their jurisdictions.
According to him, the renewed activities of armed bandits and the spread of the Lakurawa threat in neighbouring areas require security operatives to remain proactive and committed to protecting lives and property.
CP Shaffa further directed divisional heads to intensify routine patrols, secure public infrastructure and ensure police stations are adequately fortified against possible attacks.
The commissioner noted that the tour forms part of efforts by the Sokoto State Police Command to rebuild public trust, improve police visibility and strengthen intelligence gathering through community participation.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting security agencies by volunteering useful information that could aid efforts to tackle insecurity across the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer PRO of the command, Ahmad Rufa’i.
