The Kebbi State Hisbah Board has arrested two women over alleged indecent dressing in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.

The Director of the Board, Surajo Usman, confirmed the development in a statement issued to journalists on Sunday in Birnin Kebbi.

Usman said the board received complaints from residents of Badariya on Friday, May 8, alleging that some women living in a house within the area were dressing inappropriately.

“According to the residents, the women sometimes came outside the house in such attire, which raised concerns within the community,” he said.

He explained that Hisbah officers were deployed to investigate and verify the allegations, adding that two women suspected to be involved were subsequently arrested.

“During interrogation, the women admitted to the act but stated that they had no malicious intention.

“They explained that the extreme heat compelled them to wear the clothing for comfort and ventilation,” he added.

Usman further stated that the women expressed remorse and promised not to repeat the act.

“The Hisbah Board counselled them on the importance of morality, modesty, and respect for religious and community values, including the need to wear decent clothing even at home,” he said.

The women were later released after receiving advice to conduct themselves properly in the future.

Usman also urged members of the public to uphold good moral conduct and cooperate with authorities in maintaining peace and moral discipline in the community.
