BREAKING: Court Restrains INEC from Recognising ADC Congresses Organised by David Mark-Led Leadership

A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has issued an order restraining the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising or taking part in any state congresses organised by the caretaker leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), headed by former Senate President David Mark.

Delivering judgment on Wednesday, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik ruled that the four-year tenure of the party’s State Working Committees and State Executive Committees remains valid and subsisting until duly constituted congresses are conducted and a national convention is properly convened.

The court further held that neither the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria nor the constitution of the African Democratic Congress grants the caretaker or interim National Working Committee, led by David Mark, the authority to appoint committees for the purpose of conducting state congresses.

Further details are expected.
