ADC Writes CJN, Seeks Urgent Supreme Court Judgment Over Leadership Crisis

The African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by former Senate President David Mark, has written to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, urging the Supreme Court to urgently deliver judgment in the appeal concerning the party’s leadership dispute.

In a letter dated April 28 and signed by the party’s counsel, Shuaibu E. Aruwa, the ADC warned that any further delay could jeopardize its chances of participating in the 2027 general elections.

The Supreme Court had concluded hearing the matter on April 22 and reserved judgment without announcing a date. The five-member panel was chaired by Mohammed Garba.

According to the ADC, INEC allegedly acted on the Court of Appeal judgment by withdrawing recognition of the party’s leadership, leaving the party without an acknowledged leadership structure despite remaining a registered political party.

The party stated that if judgment is not delivered within three days, it risks being excluded from the 2027 elections, which could deny millions of supporters their constitutional right to associate politically and contest elections through a party of their choice.

ADC added that in these circumstances, delayed justice would amount to denied justice, stressing that the political future of the party and the expectations of its members now depend on the Supreme Court’s timely decision.
