The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto on Thursday conducted it’s primary elections for various legislative positions across Sokoto State, with several incumbent lawmakers and prominent party figures securing tickets ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The primaries were held across the state’s 23 local government areas, largely to ratify candidates who had emerged through consensus arrangements reached by party stakeholders last week.
In Sokoto South Senatorial District, party members from the seven local government areas that make up the zone gathered at designated venues to affirm former Nigerian Ambassador to Jordan, Amb. Faruk Malami Yabo, as the ADC candidate for the senatorial seat.
Similarly, the Sokoto North Senatorial District seat, the member representing Binji/Silame Federal Constituency, Hon. Mani Maishinku Katami, emerged as the ADC candidate for the 2027 general election.
Likewise in the Sokoto East Senatorial District, former Rabah local government Chairman, Hon. Hassan Rabah became the party’s Senatorial Flagbearer.
In Yabo and Shagari Local Government Areas, the exercise was conducted peacefully as the member representing Yabo/Shagari Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Umar Yusuf Yabo, secured the party’s ticket for another term.
While in Gada/Goronyo Federal Constituency, the incumbent lawmaker, Hon. Bashir Usman Gorou, received unanimous endorsement from party members in both local government areas, earning a second term ticket to contest for the House of Representatives.
Also, Hon. Faruk Sarkin Fada was confirmed as the party’s candidate for the Sokoto North/Sokoto South Federal Constituency seat following a collective endorsement by party members from the two local government areas.
Similarly, the member representing Sokoto North I State Constituency, Hon. Yarima, was affirmed as the party’s candidate for the 2027 elections, securing a third-term bid.
Meanwhile, ADC members in Tambuwal East affirmed Alhaji Bashar Isah Jabo as the party’s flagbearer for the State House of Assembly ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Party officials described other primaries conducted across various constituencies as peaceful and successful, noting that the consensus arrangement adopted across the state helped to ensure a smooth and hitch free exercise.
