Tinubu Receives Ex-Sokoto PDP Governorship Candidate After Defection to APC

Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the political landscape in Sokoto State witnessed a fresh realignment as the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party PDP governorship candidate, Mallam Sa’idu Umar(Mallam Ubandoman Sokoto), formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC.
Ubandoma was received into the ruling party by the APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, during a meeting at his residence in Asokoro, Abuja.

A former Commissioner for Finance and Secretary to the Sokoto State Government under the administration of former Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, Ubandoma contested the 2023 governorship election on the platform of the PDP.
Welcoming the former PDP governorship candidate, Senator Wamakko described the defection as a major boost for the APC, saying it reflected the growing confidence of political leaders in the party’s leadership and vision.
He assured Ubandoma and his supporters of equal opportunities and full participation in the affairs of the party, stressing that the APC remains open to all individuals committed to the peace, unity and progress of Sokoto State.
In a move underscoring the political significance of the defection, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday received Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko and Malam Sa’idu Umar at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The visit was aimed at formally presenting the former PDP governorship candidate to President Tinubu following hisdefection to the APC, further signaling his integration into the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
