Sultan of Sokoto Honours Murtala Dan’iya with Traditional Title of “Dallatun Sokoto”

His Eminence, the Sultan of Sokoto and President-General of the Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammadu Saad Abubakar, CFR, mni, has conferred the prestigious traditional title of Dallatun Sokoto on renowned philanthropist Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya in recognition of his outstanding service, integrity, and commitment to the advancement of Islam and the people of Sokoto.

The appointment was conveyed in an official letter signed by the Secretary of the Sultanate Council, Alhaji Sa’idu Muhammadu Maccido, on behalf of the Sultan.

According to the letter, the Sultan approved the appointment after careful consideration of Dan’iya’s philanthropy, contributions, and exemplary character.

Announcing the conferment, the Sultanate Council stated that the appointment was made in recognition of his commendable character, humanitarian support for the less privileged, and dedication to the development of the Muslim community, Sokoto State, and the nation.

The Sultanate Council also prayed for divine guidance and success for the new titleholder, adding that the date for the official turbaning ceremony would be communicated in due course.

The title of Dallatun Sokoto is one of the most respected traditional titles within the Sokoto Sultanate. It is bestowed on individuals who have distinguished themselves through service, philanthropy, and commitment to the values and ideals of the Sokoto Caliphate.

Alhaji Murtala Abdulkadir Dan’iya currently serves as the Executive Chairman, Sokoto State Scholarship Board under the administration of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State.
