Eid-el-Kabir: Ahmed Aliyu Calls for Support to Vulnerable Groups in Sokoto
Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu, has called on Muslims celebrating Eid-el-Kabir to remember vulnerable groups by sharing part of their sacrificial meat with them.
In his Eid-el-Kabir message to the people of the state, the governor said the appeal was necessary to ensure vulnerable residents feel included during the festivities.
He noted that although the state government had already distributed sacrificial animals to vulnerable groups, individuals who slaughter animals for the celebration should also extend support to the needy, internally displaced persons (IDPs), and persons living with disabilities.
According to him, sharing sacrificial meat not only attracts rewards from Almighty Allah but also gives vulnerable people a sense of belonging.
Governor Aliyu stressed that Islam encourages love, compassion, and care for neighbours, especially during festive periods, and reminded Muslims to follow the Islamic sharing formula for sacrificial meat.
The governor also urged wealthy individuals to emulate the state government by supporting less privileged members of society.
He stated that the state government spends huge sums annually to assist Muslim clerics, the needy, IDPs, and persons living with disabilities to enable them celebrate Eid-el-Kabir with ease.
Aliyu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the welfare of residents and appealed to citizens to use Eid prayer sessions to pray for an end to insecurity and banditry affecting parts of the state.
He also called on pilgrims from Nigeria currently in Saudi Arabia for Hajj to pray for peace, unity, and progress in the country.
The governor prayed for a peaceful and successful Eid-el-Kabir celebration across the state.
