Democracy Must Deliver Security, Prosperity, Hope For Nigerians – DAN’IYA

The Governorship Candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Sokoto State, Hon. Munir Muhammad Dan’iya (Walin Sokoto), has called for renewed commitment to democratic values, accountability, security, and people-centred governance as Nigerians commemorate the 2026 Democracy Day.

In a statement by his Media Aide, Aminu Abdullahi marking the 27th anniversary of uninterrupted democratic rule in Nigeria, Dan’iya described June 12 as a historic milestone that symbolizes the triumph of the people’s will and the sacrifices of those who fought for democratic governance and civil liberties.

He noted that democracy should go beyond periodic elections and must translate into tangible improvements in the lives of citizens through enhanced security, economic opportunities, quality education, healthcare, and sustainable development.

According to him, government exists to serve the people and improve their quality of life, stressing that the success of democracy should be measured by its impact on ordinary Nigerians.

The ADC governorship candidate expressed concern over the socio-economic and security challenges facing the country, including rising living costs, inflation, insecurity, unemployment, and declining purchasing power.

While acknowledging progress made since the return to democratic rule in 1999, Dan’iya said many Nigerians still expect greater dividends of democracy that directly affect their daily lives.

He called for visionary leadership and inclusive governance, urging leaders at all levels to prioritize the welfare of citizens and implement policies that promote national development.

Dan’iya also encouraged Nigerians to remain committed to peaceful political participation and democratic engagement, emphasizing that the power of democracy ultimately resides with the people.

He specifically urged eligible Nigerians, particularly young people, to obtain and safeguard their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), describing the ballot as the most effective instrument for democratic change and accountability.

Reaffirming the commitment of the ADC to good governance, transparency, security, economic growth, and inclusive development, Dan’iya congratulated Nigerians on Democracy Day and expressed optimism that the nation can overcome its challenges through unity, responsible leadership, and collective effort.
