Police Foil Bandits’ Attack on Sokoto Community, Recover Magazines and Live Ammunition
The Sokoto State Police Command has foiled a bandits’ attack on Tauma Village in Bodinga Local Government Area, recovering five magazines loaded with 40 rounds of live ammunition after a gun battle with the fleeing suspects.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the incident occurred on Saturday, July 25, 2026, at about 8:30 p.m., following a distress call from a resident reporting that heavily armed bandits had invaded the community.
The statement said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) swiftly mobilized tactical units, including the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and the Violence Crime Response Unit (VCRU), alongside other security personnel to confront the attackers.
The police said the security operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce exchange of gunfire, forcing them to flee into a nearby forest with suspected gunshot wounds due to the superior firepower of the joint security team.
Following a search of the area, security personnel recovered five magazines containing 40 rounds of live ammunition believed to have been abandoned by the fleeing criminals.
The Command confirmed that no casualties were recorded among security operatives or residents during the operation.
It added that confidence-building patrols are ongoing in the area to reassure residents, while neighboring police divisions have been placed on high alert to track down any injured suspects who may attempt to seek medical treatment or hide within their jurisdictions.
The Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious individuals, especially those with visible gunshot injuries, to the nearest security agency.
The Command reiterated its commitment to sustaining the fight against banditry and ensuring the safety of lives and property across Sokoto State.
