CP Shaffa Takes Community Policing Campaign to Five Sokoto LGAs

The Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has continued his operational tour across Kebbe, Tambuwal, Shagari, Yabo, and Bodinga Local Government Areas as part of efforts to strengthen grassroots security and promote community policing in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the tour focused on improving police-community relations, assessing operational effectiveness, and addressing emerging security concerns across the affected LGAs.

During the engagements, CP Shaffa met with traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, transport unions, vigilante members, and other stakeholders, emphasizing the importance of collaboration between residents and security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining peace.

The police commissioner also inspected divisional headquarters in the five LGAs, where he carried out spot checks on duty rosters, arms handling procedures, and response mechanisms to emergency situations. He commended officers for their commitment while directing immediate corrective measures in areas where operational lapses were identified.

Addressing residents during townhall meetings, CP Shaffa reiterated the command’s commitment to professional policing and warned against extortion, intimidation, and other forms of misconduct by officers.

He explained that the community policing initiative championed by the IGP is aimed at promoting preventive policing, dialogue, and shared responsibility between the police and citizens.

“Policing is a social contract. The IGP has directed that every officer must become a community asset. These engagements are operational and designed to ensure we listen to the people and respond appropriately,” the CP stated.

Traditional rulers and stakeholders across the visited LGAs commended the initiative, describing the visible presence of the police leadership as reassuring and capable of deterring criminal activities.

The Sarkin Kabin Kebbe, Alhaji Lawali Labbo Margay, praised the operational visit and pledged continued support for security agencies in the area.

At the end of the tour, CP Shaffa directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to submit actionable community policing plans within seven days, based on feedback gathered during the engagements. He also ordered intensified patrols along inter-LGA border routes, particularly in Kebbe and Tambuwal.

The commissioner further appealed to residents to continue supporting the police and other security agencies with credible and timely information to enhance effective policing across the state.
