APC Retains Zuru Assembly Seat in Kebbi By-Election
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the Zuru State Constituency by-election for the Kebbi State House of Assembly, with its candidate, Rabiu Garba Aiki, securing a decisive win.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) announced the result on Saturday at the collation centre, where Returning Officer and Collation Officer, Prof. Muhammad Bashar, confirmed Aiki as the winner after polling 4,887 votes.
His closest challenger, Aliyu Galadima Muhammad of the Labour Party, received 168 votes.
According to the official figures, the constituency has 109,385 registered voters, but only 5,156 were accredited for the exercise. A total of 5,055 valid votes were recorded, while 95 ballots were declared invalid.
Results from all 10 wards showed the APC maintaining a comfortable lead throughout the election.
The by-election was conducted to fill the vacancy created by the death of the former Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru.
Although the poll was largely peaceful, voter participation was noticeably low, with only a small percentage of registered voters turning out to cast their ballots.
