UNICEF, SIDA, RUWASSA Distribute Dignity Kits to IDPs in Kebbi

Hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Machika and Danko IDP Camps in Danko Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State have received dignity kits through a humanitarian intervention supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) and implemented by UNICEF in collaboration with the Kebbi State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASSA).

The intervention targeted vulnerable households affected by insecurity and displacement, with 100 beneficiaries reached in each of the two camps. The support is aimed at improving hygiene, health, and overall wellbeing among displaced persons facing difficult living conditions.

The dignity kits contained essential personal and household hygiene materials, including sanitary pads, soap, detergent, panties, towels, buckets with covers, water containers, cups, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and other items necessary for maintaining hygiene and dignity in emergency situations.

According to officials, the distribution forms part of UNICEF’s humanitarian response programme funded by SIDA, which seeks to provide immediate relief to populations affected by insecurity while improving access to water, sanitation, and hygiene services.

A total of 100 cartons of dignity kits were distributed in each camp as part of efforts to address the needs of displaced households and reduce the risk of waterborne and sanitation-related diseases through improved hygiene practices.

Beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the support, describing the items as timely assistance that would help meet their daily hygiene needs and improve living conditions within the camps.

UNICEF, working closely with the Kebbi State Government through RUWASSA and with support from SIDA, says it remains committed to delivering lifesaving water, sanitation, and hygiene interventions to vulnerable populations affected by emergencies across the state.

The dignity kit distribution is one of several ongoing initiatives aimed at protecting the health, dignity, and wellbeing of displaced women, children, and families in Kebbi State.
