‘Seeing Is Believing’: Media Team Inspects Irrigation, Housing and NASENI Technology Projects in Kano
The media team participating in the Seeing Is Believing (Gani Ya Kori Ji) initiative has continued its inspection tour of key Federal Government projects in Northern Nigeria with visits to the Challawa Irrigation Project, the Renewed Hope City Housing Estate, and the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI)’s Sustainable and Emerging Technology Development Institute (SETDI) under construction at the New Campus of Bayero University, Kano.

The initiative, led by the Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Media and Public Enlightenment, Malam Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, is designed to provide Nigerians with firsthand information on projects being executed under the Renewed Hope Agenda by enabling journalists and stakeholders to assess completed and ongoing projects on the ground.

The delegation first visited the Challawa Irrigation Project in Karaye Local Government Area, where members were briefed on the progress of the project and its expected contribution to boosting agricultural productivity, expanding irrigation farming, and strengthening food security.

The team later toured the Renewed Hope City Housing Estate in Janguza, inspecting both the completed first phase and the ongoing second phase of the Federal Government’s housing development programme.

According to project officials, the estate comprises more than 1,000 housing units. The first phase, consisting of 325 completed homes, is awaiting commissioning, while work is progressing on the second phase, which will deliver an additional 698 housing units. The development includes a mix of three, four and five-bedroom homes, both single-storey and duplex units, aimed at addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit while creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic activities.

The journalists also visited the Sustainable and Emerging Technology Development Institute (SETDI), a flagship project of National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure being developed at Bayero University, Kano.

During the inspection, project officials explained that the institute is being designed as a major hub for training young Nigerians in 21st-century technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI), robotics, sustainable energy and other emerging technologies shaping the global economy.

They noted that the institute forms part of President Tinubu’s strategy to build a knowledge-driven economy anchored on science, technology, innovation and youth skills development. Upon completion, the facility is expected to become one of Africa’s leading centres for research and technological innovation, equipped with state-of-the-art laboratories, innovation hubs and advanced training facilities. It is also expected to support industrial growth, create employment opportunities and attract both local and foreign investment to Nigeria.

Speaking during the tour, Abdulaziz said the Seeing Is Believing initiative would continue visiting major Federal Government projects across Northern Nigeria to enable Nigerians to independently verify the progress being recorded under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

He said the programme was conceived to promote transparency and accountability by allowing journalists and members of the public to witness government projects firsthand and provide accurate, credible and fact-based information on their implementation.
