Supreme Court Set to Rule on ADC, PDP Leadership Crises
The Supreme Court of Nigeria is expected to deliver crucial judgments on Wednesday in two major political appeals involving internal leadership disputes within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Information obtained from the court’s official cause list shows that the cases, categorized under political appeals, are scheduled for Thursday, April 30, 2026.
The ADC case, marked SC/CV/180/2026, has been fixed for 2:00 pm, while the exact time for the PDP matter has not been disclosed.
The rulings come at a time of heightened political tension as parties position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the heart of the ADC case is a prolonged leadership struggle between a faction led by former Senate President, David Mark, and another group headed by Nafiu Bala Gombe. Mark is challenging an earlier judgment of the Court of Appeal delivered on March 12, which ordered all parties to maintain the status quo in the dispute.
He argued that the appellate court exceeded its authority, insisting that the matter is purely an internal party issue that should not be subjected to judicial interference.
The appeal was heard on April 22 by a five-member panel of the apex court led by Mohammed Garba, after which judgment was reserved.
