APC National Chairman Meets Bala Mohammed Amid Defection Speculations
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, on Wednesday held a closed-door meeting with the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed, at the Government House in Bauchi, fueling ongoing speculations about the governor’s political future.
Yilwatda was accompanied by the Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, in what sources described as a high-level political engagement with potential implications ahead of future electoral alignments.
Although details of the meeting were not made public, as none of the parties addressed journalists after the engagement, insiders within the Government House hinted that the visit may not be unconnected with efforts by the APC leadership to court Governor Mohammed.
The Bauchi governor, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and current Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum, has recently been the subject of intense political speculation, with unconfirmed reports suggesting he may be considering a defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
However, the presence of the APC National Chairman and a sitting governor from the ruling party has further deepened intrigue, with analysts interpreting the visit as a strategic move by the APC to either dissuade Mohammed from joining the ADC or possibly persuade him to align with the ruling party.
Political observers note that Governor Mohammed remains a key figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics, and any potential shift in his allegiance could significantly alter the balance of power, particularly in the North-East region.
As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official confirmation from Governor Mohammed or his aides regarding any plans to defect from the PDP.
