The Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress(NDC) has unveiled the party’s National Financial Secretary, Alhaji Mainasara Sani, as its candidate for the Sokoto North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking during the unveiling ceremony, the State Chairman of the NDC, Engr. Bello Sani Yabo, described Mainasara Sani as a seasoned politician whose contributions and sacrifices have significantly shaped the political landscape of Sokoto State.
Yabo said the party carefully considered Mainasara’s track record, commitment, and resilience before presenting him as its flag bearer for the senatorial contest.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Mainasara Sani disclosed that he initially declined the offer to contest but eventually accepted following sustained pressure and encouragement from family members, political associates, and supporters.
“I initially turned down the candidature, but after consultations and persistent appeals from family, friends, and political associates, I decided to accept the responsibility of contesting for the Sokoto North Senatorial District under the platform of the NDC” he said.
Mainasara argued that the time had come for a new generation of leaders to take charge of the district’s representation in the Senate. He maintained that the incumbent Senator, Aliyu Wamakko, had served for a considerable period and that younger minds with fresh ideas should be given the opportunity to lead.
Reflecting on his political journey, Mainasara recounted the numerous challenges, betrayals, and obstacles he had encountered over the years, noting that despite the setbacks, he remained steadfast and committed to public service.
He also launched a scathing attack on the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) accusing the party of failing Nigerians in key areas of governance, including security and economic development.
According to him Northern Nigeria has been subjected to unprecedented hardship and insecurity with many citizens living in fear and uncertainty.
“Today many people can no longer go out in search of their daily livelihood with the assurance that they will return home safely. This is a clear indication that the APC has failed in its responsibility to protect lives and improve the welfare of Nigerians” he stated.
Mainasara called on Nigerians to support the NDC in the 2027 elections, insisting that it was time to vote out the APC due to what he described as its poor performance and inability to address the nation’s pressing challenges.
