Youth Allegedly Kills Neighbour Over Water Container Dispute in Sokoto

A young man identified as Ibrahim Baba has allegedly killed his neighbour, Abubakar Ahmad, following a dispute over a water container in the Sabon Titi area of Sokoto State.
Security agencies have reportedly launched an investigation into the incident.
According to Umar Ahmad, a brother of the deceased, the conflict began after Abubakar took an old plastic water container that had been left at a public water collection point and cut off its top for personal use.
The owner of The container later demanded compensation, insisting that she be paid for it. Umar said the deceased agreed to pay her N1,500, but she refused to accept the amount.
He added that an uncle of the deceased also offered to settle the payment, but the woman insisted that only the person who used the container should pay for it.
According to Umar, the woman later reported the matter to her eldest son, Ibrahim Baba.
“On Wednesday night, the deceased stepped out of his house to relieve himself when Ibrahim and some of his friends confronted him,” Umar said.
“They struck him on the head with a stick and continued beating him until he died”.
He further alleged that after confirming he was dead, the suspects carried his body and dumped it inside the premises of a nearby Islamic school.
A community elder, Malam Rufa’i Alhaji Sama’ila Rungumi, described the incident as tragic, but mlamenting that a minor disagreement had escalated into a fatal attack.
He said the deceased was a youn man who earned a living through motorcycle and car washing services.
Rungumi also disclosed that Abubakar is survived by a wife and two children, while his wife is currently pregnant.
Following the discovery of the body at the Islamic school, residents alerted security personnel, who transported the remains to a hospital where doctors confirmed his death.
As of the time of filing this report, the Sokoto State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident, while investigations are ongoing.
