Wamakko Flags Off ₦11.84bn Gidanmadi–Binji–Gande Road Project, Hails Ahmed Aliyu’s Development Drive

Former Sokoto State Governor, and Senator, representing Sokoto North, Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, has officially flagged off the construction of the 35.7-kilometre Gidanmadi–Binji–Gande Road, a project valued at ₦11.84 billion, describing it as another major step in Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s efforts to transform rural communities across the state.

The road project, funded through a partnership between the Sokoto State Government and the Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project (RAAMP), is part of activities marking the third anniversary of Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration.

Speaking during the ceremony, Governor Ahmed Aliyu said the road would connect Gidanmadi, Tatali, Binji, Miyuki, Bunkidi, Gidan Magaji and Gande, cutting across Tangaza, Binji and Silame Local Government Areas.

According to the governor, the project includes modern drainage structures, asphalt surfacing, road shoulders and other safety features designed to ensure durability and improve access for rural communities.

He said the road would enhance the movement of agricultural produce, reduce post-harvest losses and improve access to healthcare, education and markets for residents of the benefiting communities.

Governor Ahmed Aliyu noted that the project complements several township and rural road projects already completed or under construction across Sokoto State, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to equitable development.

He urged the contractor and supervising consultants to maintain high construction standards and complete the project within the agreed timeline.

The governor also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting infrastructure development in Sokoto through federal projects, including the Sokoto–Gusau Road and the Badagry–Sokoto Super Highway.

Senator Wamakko commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for what he described as people-centred governance, praising his investments in road construction, education, healthcare, agriculture, water supply and security.

The former governor said the administration had exceeded the expectations of those who doubted the governor’s ability to lead because of his age.

“Today, Alhamdulillah, you have silenced those critics through your outstanding performance. Within just three years, you have demonstrated exceptional leadership, and I remain proud of your achievements. I am confident that even greater accomplishments lie ahead, In Sha Allah,” Wamakko said.

He added that the Gidanmadi–Binji–Gande Road would improve transportation, boost agricultural activities, stimulate commerce and strengthen the socio-economic wellbeing of communities along the corridor.

Wamakko also praised the governor’s social intervention programmes, including the distribution of food items and fertiliser to residents, as well as his prudent management of public finances, noting that the administration has continued to execute major capital projects without resorting to unnecessary borrowing.

Earlier, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Rural Roads, Malami Galadanci, described the project as one of the flagship rural infrastructure initiatives of the Ahmed Aliyu administration.

He said the road demonstrates the government’s determination to improve rural connectivity, promote agricultural productivity and accelerate socio-economic development across the state, while assuring that strict monitoring would guarantee quality delivery.

Also speaking, the District Head of Binji, Alhaji Usman Dan Sarki, expressed appreciation to the state government, describing the project as a long-awaited intervention that would transform the lives of thousands of residents in Tangaza, Binji and Silame Local Government Areas.

He pledged the full cooperation of the benefiting communities to ensure the successful completion of the project.

The event also witnessed the reception of hundreds of defectors from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Gudu Local Government Area into the APC, with the new members citing the administration’s developmental achievements as the reason for joining the ruling party.
