Tinubu Seeks Senate Confirmation of FRC Chairman, Ambassadorial Nominee, Others

President Bola Tinubu has asked the Senate to screen and confirm nominees for key positions in several federal government institutions.

The requests were contained in separate letters read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday as the Senate resumed proceedings after a nine-week recess.

Among the nominees is Abdullahi Maikano, whom President Tinubu nominated as Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission (FRC), alongside six other members of the commission.

Following the communication, the Senate referred the nominations to its Committee on Finance for consideration and directed the committee to submit its report within two weeks.

In another letter, the President sought the confirmation of Sani Ndanusa as a Non-Career Ambassador/High Commissioner.

The nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, which was also given two weeks to report its findings to the chamber.

President Tinubu further requested the confirmation of Wakil Bulka as a member of the Federal Civil Service Commission representing Bauchi, Borno and Yobe states.

The nomination was referred to the Senate Committee on Establishment and Public Service, with a two-week deadline to submit its report.

Reading the communications, Akpabio said the requests would be subjected to the relevant Senate committees for consideration before the nominees are presented for confirmation.

The Senate’s consideration of the nominees is expected to pave the way for the appointments to take effect once confirmed by the chamber.
