Sultan Urges Nigerians to Scrutinise Politicians’ Promises Ahead of 202

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to carefully assess the promises of politicians before deciding who to support in the 2027 general elections.
The Sultan also cautioned politicians against politicising insecurity and other national challenges during their campaigns, urging them to focus on issues capable of promoting peace, unity and national development.
He made the call on Monday when he received the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 Campaign Council, led by its Director-General, Senator Abdul-Aziz Yari Abubakar, at his palace in Sokoto.
The Sultan urged voters to listen carefully to politicians during the electioneering period and make their choices based on candidates and programmes they believe would best serve their interests and those of the country.
He further called on political parties and their candidates to conduct peaceful and issue-based campaigns, respect the choices of the electorate and play politics in a manner that would strengthen national unity and development.
“Listen carefully to the promises of politicians and make your choice based on what you believe will best serve your interests and the interests of the country,” the Sultan advised.
He noted that no government anywhere in the world could completely eradicate insecurity and poverty, but stressed that governments could work towards reducing their impact on citizens.
The Sultan also wished members of the APC Campaign Council success in their political engagements and prayed for continued peace, stability and good governance in Nigeria.
Earlier, Yari said the delegation visited the Sultan to seek his fatherly guidance, advice and prayers ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had demonstrated commitment to the development of Northern Nigeria and the country even before assuming office, particularly through his support for leaders and development initiatives.
According to Yari, the APC-led Federal Government has several achievements to present to Nigerians, particularly under the Tinubu administration.
He said the administration had remained committed to promoting peace, unity and cohesion across the country.
Yari assured the Sultan that the party would conduct peaceful campaigns and appealed for his continued support and prayers.
