The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the country ahead of the 2027 general elections, stressing that the emergence of credible and God fearing leaders remains critical to Nigeria’s peace, unity and development.

The Sultan, who is also the President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs, made the call in his Eid-el-Kabir message delivered on Wednesday, where he appealed to citizens to seek divine guidance for the nation’s leadership and future.

According to the revered monarch, Nigeria’s progress depends not only on political activities and electoral processes, but also on sincere prayers, patriotism and the collective commitment of citizens toward justice and good governance.

“Our prayers are always the guiding light toward the choice of our leaders; therefore, we should sustain more prayers in our quest for the best country we desire”he said.

The Sultan noted that as the country gradually approaches another electoral cycle, Nigerians must pray for leaders with integrity, competence and the fear of God, capable of addressing the nation’s economic and security challenges.

He also called on Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of sacrifice, obedience, tolerance and compassion associated with the Eid-el-Kabir celebration, saying the season offers an opportunity for national reflection and renewal.

Describing the festival as a period of spiritual devotion and peaceful coexistence, the monarch prayed for lasting peace, unity and prosperity across Nigeria.

The Sultan expressed hope that future Eid celebrations would come under improved economic and security conditions for citizens across the country.

He further commended Ahmed Aliyu for efforts aimed at improving security and the welfare of residents in Sokoto State.

The traditional ruler particularly praised the state government’s support for intending pilgrims travelling to Saudi Arabia for the 2026 Hajj exercise, while praying for their safe journey and successful return.

He also urged political leaders at all levels to place national interest and the wellbeing of citizens above personal and political ambitions as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
