Sokoto CP Visits Sultan, Seeks Traditional Support Against Insecurity

The newly posted Commissioner of Police in Sokoto State, CP Hayatu Hassan Shaffa, has pledged stronger collaboration with traditional rulers as part of efforts to improve security across the state.

According to the statement issued by PPRO, DSP Ahmad Rufa’i, the Commissioner made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammadu Saad Abubakar III, at the Sultan’s Palace in Sokoto.

CP Shaffa, who was accompanied by members of the Police Command management team, formally announced his assumption of duty and sought the blessings and guidance of the revered monarch as he begins leadership of policing operations in the state.

During the meeting, the Police Commissioner stressed the importance of synergy between security agencies and traditional institutions, noting that royal fathers remain vital partners in grassroots intelligence gathering and community policing.

In his remarks, the Sultan of Sokoto welcomed the new CP and urged him to maintain close working relationships with traditional rulers across Sokoto State.

The Sultan emphasized that traditional institutions possess valuable local knowledge capable of supporting security agencies in tackling banditry and other criminal activities.

“Security is a collective responsibility. Traditional rulers are closer to the people and understand the terrain and movements within their communities,” the Sultan said.

The visit ended with a group photograph, symbolizing continued cooperation between the Sokoto State Police Command and the Sultanate Council.
