Police Warn Against Further Blockade of Kebbi–Sokoto Highway
By Yusuf Gwandu
The Kebbi State Police Command has warned against any further blockade of the Kebbi–Sokoto Federal Highway, threatening legal action against individuals who organise or participate in such activities.
The warning followed the latest blockade of the highway on Friday, October 9, 2026, which disrupted vehicular movement for approximately three hours. A similar incident was reported on September 23.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, said the blockade obstructed motorists, people requiring emergency medical attention and other members of the public from carrying out their lawful activities.
The command condemned the action, describing it as unacceptable and a violation of traffic regulations, while warning that the obstruction of public highways could create opportunities for criminal activities.
It urged aggrieved individuals to channel their grievances through lawful means, including elected representatives, traditional rulers and the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), rather than blocking public roads.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar M. Hadejia, appealed to residents to respect the rights of other citizens and refrain from actions capable of disrupting the free movement of people and goods.
He also urged parents and guardians to caution their children and wards against participating in unlawful assemblies and to encourage respect for the law.
The command warned that organisers and participants in any future blockade would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
It reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and ensuring the uninterrupted movement of lawful road users, stressing that it would no longer tolerate road blockades under any guise.
