Sultan Receives New Zone 10 AIG, Calls for Intelligence-Led Policing

The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has called for a stronger intelligence-led policing approach to address evolving security challenges, urging security agencies to strengthen their operational strategies.

The Sultan made the call on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, when the newly posted Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 10 Police Command Headquarters, Sokoto, Ahmed Musa, paid him a courtesy visit at his palace.

Musa, who was accompanied by the Commissioner of Police, Sokoto State Command, and other senior police officers, visited the palace as part of his familiarisation tour and to formally announce his assumption of duty as the 25th AIG of Zone 10.

Speaking during the visit, the AIG disclosed that he previously served as AIG in charge of Community Policing at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

He assured the Sultan and the people of Sokoto of his commitment to strengthening community policing initiatives to tackle insecurity across the zone.

In his response, the Sultan congratulated Musa on his new appointment and expressed optimism about his return to the Seat of the Caliphate in a higher leadership capacity.

He commended police officers and personnel serving across Sokoto State for their sacrifices and dedication to protecting lives and property, as well as their efforts to address emerging security threats.

The monarch also stressed the need for a shift towards robust, intelligence-driven policing across tactical operations to improve security outcomes.

On the forthcoming elections, the Sultan emphasised the importance of peaceful political activities, offering prayers for peace, stability and decorum throughout the campaign period and the general elections across the country.

The visit ended with the Sultanate reaffirming its commitment to supporting the Nigeria Police Force and strengthening cooperation between the traditional institution and the police in addressing security challenges.
