The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a robbery and abduction syndicate allegedly involved in a series of “one-chance” operations across major highways in the state.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the suspects were apprehended during coordinated police operations carried out in parts of Birnin Kebbi, Kalgo, Jega, Maiyama and Aliero Local Government Areas.

The arrested suspects were identified as Abubakar Muhammad of Bancho village in Tambuwal, Shehu Ango, Shamsu Daudu, Shuaibu Umar and Aisha Usmanu.
Police investigations revealed that the syndicate allegedly specialised in posing as commercial vehicle operators to lure unsuspecting passengers before robbing them at knifepoint and abandoning them in remote areas.
The Command disclosed that in one of the incidents, the suspects reportedly withdrew more than ₦1 million from a victim’s bank account and later demanded ransom from the victim’s relatives before securing release.
In another case reported on April 30, 2026, along Tashar Hauwa on the Jega–Kalgo Road, the syndicate allegedly robbed a female passenger, identified as Shamsiyya Samaila, of her Infinix Android phone, power bank, charger and Opay ATM card. Police said the suspects later withdrew ₦9,000 from the account linked to the ATM card.
The Police Command said further investigations connected the suspects to several other “one-chance” robberies and abduction cases along highways within the state, adding that efforts are ongoing to arrest other fleeing members of the gang.
The Commissioner of Police advised commuters to avoid boarding suspicious vehicles on highways and instead make use of designated motor parks and bus stations.
The Command also reassured residents of its commitment to tackling criminal activities and urged members of the public to continue providing useful information to security agencies
