Nigeria, IEA Sign Joint Work Programme to Boost Energy Security

Nigeria and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have signed an agreement for a Joint Work Programme aimed at strengthening cooperation in energy data, policy development and investment across the country’s energy value chain.
Vice President Kashim Shettima disclosed this after receiving a delegation from the IEA, led by its Chief Executive, Dr Fatih Birol, during a visit to the Presidential Villa earlier today.
According to the Vice President, the agreement is expected to deepen Nigeria’s strategic partnership with the global energy agency while supporting the development of reliable data needed to guide energy policy and attract investment.
Shettima described Nigeria’s formal admission into the IEA as an Association Country as a major milestone, saying it reflects the progress recorded through the Federal Government’s economic reforms.
“Nigeria’s formal admission into the IEA as an Association Country is a significant milestone for the country and another testament to the gains of the economic reforms of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.”
The Vice President said the partnership would contribute to Nigeria’s efforts to strengthen energy security and promote economic growth by improving access to credible energy data and supporting informed investment decisions.
The engagement with the IEA comes as the Federal Government continues to pursue reforms aimed at transforming Nigeria’s energy sector and creating conditions for greater investment across the value chain.
